Meet the founder
Arlene P. Chandler, MSOB, SWP
Arlene P. Chandler is a community engagement strategist, speaker, and the founder of Spectrum Family Talks LLC. She holds a Master of Science in Organizational Behavior (MSOB) from Benedictine University and is a certified Strategic Workforce Planning professional (SWP) through the Human Capital Institute.
Her work is grounded in a simple but powerful belief: when families, schools, healthcare providers, and communities are connected and communicating well, children thrive. That belief comes from lived experience — as a mother, an advocate, and a professional who has spent her career building bridges between people and the systems meant to serve them.
Arlene brings expertise in public speaking, strategic planning, management consulting, and organizational development to every engagement. She is known for her candor, her warmth, and her ability to help organizations see what is possible when they stop working in silos and start working in community.
Our mission
We do not fit neatly into one category.
That is intentional. Because the needs of families do not fit neatly into one system.
Spectrum Family Talks creates meaningful connections between families, schools, libraries, healthcare providers, businesses, community organizations, and the broader systems that shape opportunities for children and families.
Our work is to build bridges across those systems so children, families, professionals, and communities can thrive together.
Our story
Born from lived experience. Built for community.
Spectrum Family Talks began the way most meaningful things do — with a personal experience that made the gaps in the system impossible to ignore.
As the mother of a son with Down syndrome, Arlene found herself navigating schools, healthcare systems, community programs, and support networks that were rarely talking to each other. She had the professional skills to advocate effectively. She knew most families did not. And she knew that was not acceptable.
So she started having conversations. Then those conversations became events. Events became partnerships. Partnerships became programs. And programs became a community — one that continues to grow across Chicago and the Midwest.
Today, Spectrum Family Talks works with families, schools, libraries, healthcare providers, businesses, and community organizations to build the connections and systems that help children and families thrive. The work is personal. The impact is collective.
In the community
Showing up where it matters
What we do
Three ways we show up for community
Facilitate thoughtful conversations
We create spaces where families, educators, healthcare providers, and community leaders can have honest, productive conversations about what children and families actually need. No jargon. No silos. Just real dialogue that leads to real change.
Build trusted partnerships
We connect organizations across sectors who share a commitment to inclusive, community-centered support. Schools, libraries, healthcare systems, businesses, and community organizations all have a role to play. We help them play it together.
Design sustainable systems
We do not just facilitate one conversation and move on. We help organizations build the structures, practices, and relationships that make inclusion and family engagement sustainable over time.
Who we are
Lived experience leads here.
Spectrum Family Talks is led by people who have navigated these systems as family members, advocates, and professionals. That lived experience is not a footnote. It is the foundation of everything we do.
We bring together facilitators, speakers, educators, and community builders who are deeply committed to the families and communities we serve. We show up with empathy, expertise, and a genuine belief that every family deserves to feel supported and included.
What guides us
Our values in practice
Community first
Every decision we make starts with the question: does this serve the community? Not the organization. Not the brand. The community.
Lived experience matters
We center the voices of families and individuals with direct experience navigating these systems. That perspective shapes everything we build.
Bridges, not silos
We actively work against the fragmentation that leaves families falling through the cracks. Our job is to connect, not to compete.
Sustainable impact
We are not interested in one-time events that feel good but change nothing. We invest in relationships and systems that create lasting change.
Ready to build something together?
Whether you are a school looking for a community partner, a family looking for support, or an organization ready to invest in meaningful impact, we would love to connect.
